Graduate Architecture Student Team a Finalist in Hartford Design Competition

Proposed 5 Corners Park

A team of five UHart Master of Architecture students was selected as a finalist in the 'Dream Green Hartford 2018' design competition sponsored by the City of Hartford Climate Stewardship Council. The UHart competition entry proposes developing the "5 Corners Park" by adding various activities and play features to a proposed plaza in North Hartford. The plaza is currently under construction in association with the Community Solutions renovation of the Swift Factory in North Hartford. The new park would provide numerous activities to the residential neighborhood, while also helping to education residents about the advances storm-water managment using a bioswale adjacent to the north side of the park. The student team is comprised of Nabila Ahmed, Brian Gonzalez, Alexis Hoff, Katie Scanlon, and Patrick Spichal. Their project was generated as part of the ARC 611 Architecture Studio 3 course taught by Associate Professor Seth Holmes. Additionally, a number of undergraduate architecture students engaged the project during a 1-hour 'design charette' as part of instructor Terri Hahn's AET 353 Site Planning Course. The students will present their proposal to a design jury and the City of Hartford on Wednesday October 24th at 5pm.

You can view their full proposal and submission here.
