Dr. Eoin King and Dr. Bob Celmer present Beranek Award to Jarrett Lagler and Alex Aquila, '18
Students at the University of Hartford have won a highly selective award called the Leo Beranek Student Medal for Excellence in the Study of Noise Control. The award was presented to the team of Jarrett Lagler '18 and Alex Aquila '18 during a surprise announcement at Commencement in May, at the diploma presentation ceremony for the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA).
The team of Lagler and Aquila were honored for their research work on
"Using Ultrasonic Sound to Create Mid-Air Haptic Sensations". The award
comes from the Institute of Noise Control Engineers and honors
legendary acoustic engineer Leo Beranek.
Lagler (who also was awarded the Ribicoff Prize at the main
graduation ceremony) graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of
Science in Engineering, majoring in Acoustical Engineering and Music.
Originally from Zionsville, Pennsylvania, Lagler has accepted a position
as an acoustical engineer in the Audio Design Group at Apple, Inc., in
Cupertino, California.
Aquila graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Concentration in Acoustics. Originally from Ohio, Aquila has accepted a position as an acoustic engineer with Metropolitan Acoustics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

National Award Medal in Noise Control
A great read. Acoustical wall panelling provides excellent sound absorption and noise reduction, making them ideal for use in high traffic areas. They can also be used to create visual interest and add texture to a space.
